A Review from NillaCosplay
I may wear many hats here at FCC. I’m a writer, blogger, cosplayer, caffeine and cheese enthusiast, but one thing I’m certainly not is a convention newbie. I attended my first con at 13 (which, let’s just say, was several magical transformations ago), and I’ve been hooked ever since. From small-town gatherings in the heart of Wyoming (yee-haw, truly) to the electrifying chaos of San Diego Comic-Con, I’ve seen the full spectrum of fandom in motion.
And let me tell you, after two decades of attending, organizing, and occasionally wrangling wayward guests and cosplayers, I’ve learned one universal truth: every convention is equal parts fashion show, field trip, and Sunday megachurch service, somehow happening all at once after a year-long intermission. Often run by a team of volunteers (my heroes) who’ve never done anything quite like it before. It’s equal parts chaos and devotion, and pulling it off requires heart, grit, and a little bit of fairy dust.
Most conventions land somewhere between “good” and “getting there,” and that’s absolutely fine, greatness takes time. But Miraicon? Miraicon shattered that curve like, well, a magical girl. Miraicon got to finishing her transformation sequence and down to business.
Not to toot my own con-going horn, but as a long-time veteran, I was floored to learn this was Miraicon’s very first year. The organization was seamless, the staff was confident and communicated so well, and everyone seemed genuinely thrilled to be part of something special. Even when a question caught them off guard, they radiated the kind of calm assurance that tells you, “Don’t worry, we have good leadership and we’ll find out.” That kind of energy doesn’t just happen; it’s built by a team that cares deeply.
Everywhere I looked, the vibes were immaculate. Vendors were cheerful and well cared for, (oh! and yes, I asked!) guests were glowing, and attendees were absolutely living their best pastel, sparkly lives. My only real complaint? It was over too soon. If Miraicon ever decides to expand to a week-long event, I’ll be first in line. badge in one hand, boba in the other.
And here’s how you know it truly left an impression: I haven’t bought convention merch since 2015. But I bought the Miraicon t-shirt. Sure, it’s adorable (and soft, which matters), but more than that, for me it represents something rare. A con built on friendship, passion, and the kind of effort that reminds you why fandom feels like home.
Miraicon didn’t just meet my personal expectations, it sparkled right past them. I can’t wait to see how it grows. Because if this was year one, the future looks so bright.

Step right up, ladies and gentlemen, and feast your eyes on a spectacle of color, creativity, and craftsmanship! The radiant Misty_Cakes_Official, who twirled her way into first place with her breathtaking Carousel Miku cosplay!
Misty brought a burst of carnival magic wherever she went. Her costume wasn’t just worn, it came alive. As she moved through the crowd, her skirt spun like a carousel in motion drawing delighted gasps from the crowd. It brought a sense of wonder that only cosplay can capture.
But behind the spectacle lay an astonishing amount of skill and ingenuity. From the intricate stripes on her socks to the top of her wig (which, was a helmet wig, with every single strand hand-glued into place), every detail was lovingly handcrafted. The craftsmanship didn’t stop there: the carousel horses were hand-sculpted, each gem cast in resin, and the spinning mechanism was 3D-printed and engineered entirely by her. Misty proudly noted that no part of it was pre-made; this was a creation delight from start to finish
Even the practicality of the piece showed genius-level forethought. Every component, from the carousel poles to the horses themselves, is fully detachable, using a clever system of Velcro and bottle caps for easy transport and quick costume changes. It’s an inventive nod to both form and function. Proving that even the grandest showpiece can be designed for real-world wear.
As she twirled beneath the lights, Misty_Cakes_Official embodied the very heart of performance. whimsical and bold. Her Carousel Miku was more than just a costume; it was a celebration of the spectacles of the circus, and a shining example of artistry meeting engineering.

Second Place Spotlight: _Dilyz Stitching Strength, Skill, and Soul into Every Seam
Every once in a while, a cosplayer comes along whose work makes you stop, stare, and simply say, “Wow.” As a fellow seamstress, this Miraicon, that artist was _Dilyz, whose portrayal of Saber from Fate left me absolutely shook. Her craftsmanship stood as a shining example of what precision, and love for the art of sewing can create.
The structure, the drape, the flow, every element came together in perfect harmony. Her stitching was clean enough to make professional tailors envious, each seam a quiet testament to her skill and patience. You could see the care in the way her fabric moved, how it caught the light, and how every line of the garment emphasized the regal strength of Saber herself.
But it wasn’t just the technical quality that drew admiration, it was the feeling behind it. Sewing, as any crafter knows, is a language of precision and emotion, and _Dilyz spoke it fluently. Her pattern work was so meticulously planned that the costume was balanced.
Each element of the costume reflected a clear artistic vision: the fabric choices were rich and deliberate, the trim work immaculately even, and the finishing touches, the kind you only notice up close, were executed with masterful subtlety.
Beyond her technical talent, what makes _Dilyz truly remarkable is her spirit. She’s a proud member of the disabled cosplay community, constantly reminding everyone that creativity knows no limits. Her work is an inspiring example of resilience, passion, and the belief that artistry can transcend barriers. Her voice within the community radiates encouragement and inclusion, making her not only an exceptional cosplayer but also a role model to many.
And when she’s not crafting something extraordinary, _Dilyz can be found diving deep into her other love, League of Legends. She’s a walking encyclopedia of LoL trivia, always ready with a fun fact or insight about the game or its amazing Netflix adaptation, Arcane. Ask her anything about the lore, the champions, or the behind-the-scenes details, and she’ll have the answer, or know exactly where to find it.
_Dilyz embodies everything that makes cosplay such a vibrant and welcoming form of fandom!
Third Place Spotlight: SunMoonCosplay “Heroes of Heart and Harmony!”
Champoins. There’s no better way to introduce the unforgettable duo, SunMoonCosplay, whose portrayals of Odysseus and Penelope from Epic Saga had us laughing, and maybe even tearing up a little.
From the moment they stepped into our area, their energy filled the room. They weren’t just wearing costumes, they were enjoying each other in their story. Every gesture, every glance, every laugh between them carried the warmth of a friendship forged through countless adventures (and, as we later learned, a few lost badges along the way).
Ah yes, the great badge mystery! One minute they were dazzling us with smiles and fun for the camera, the next. Tragedy struck! “Where has the badge gone?!” But like the legends they are, they rose to the occasion. United, determined, and as a team they solved the crisis together. We couldn’t help but think: “Now that’s teamwork worthy of the gods!”
Their costumes were so fun and full of charm, rich colors, and those tiny details that make you want to look twice. Each piece spoke of care, collaboration, and the kind of creativity that only comes from loving what you do. The makeup? Flawless. The joy? Absolutely contagious.
SunMoonCosplay brought the mythic energy to the competition. Like Odysseus and Penelope themselves, they reminded us that even when the seas get rough, friendship and teamwork always bring you safely back home.
