Florida Cosplay Digital Magazine went on a search for talented cosplayers in southwest Florida and found 13 to watch in its April 2020 issue, available free at https://the-caruthers-institute.foleon.com/florida-comic-cons/april-2020-copy-1/cover-issue-1/
The inaugural issue of the statewide magazine – “13 Cosplayers to Watch in Southwest Florida” — features a wide variety of talented cosplayers, some with many years of experience and others just beginning in the craft. The characters range from superheroes to anime to gaming to Broadway to a furry. Some characters featured in the magazine are obvious while others more obscure. And, there are crossover cosplays where different characters are assembled into one costume.
“We are excited to start the magazine with such an array of talented cosplayers,” said Dewey Caruthers, Editor of Florida Cosplay Digital Magazine, which is published by Florida Comic Cons, a news media website that covers cosplaying and comic conventions in The Sunshine State. www.floridacomiccons.com
The magazine showcases Florida cosplayers through photos, stories and video interviews, which provide detail on how to create costumes. “Talented cosplayers share their costume development processes that includes the types of materials used and how the costume was assembled,” said Caruthers, who noted “our video interviews will strive to be the go-to for how-to cosplay characters.”
Some of the cosplayers featured in the magazine have expensive and intricate costumes, including one nine feet tall that took six months and hundreds of hours to create and assemble. And, there are costumes that are low-budget but high-creativity that are as equally astonishing.
Additionally, the magazine features a wide age range of cosplayers, with some as young as 15 and others nearly 50. Also, there are cosplaying couples and a mom who made it a family affair. “We wanted a broad assortment of cosplayers who can show cosplaying is for all ages,” Caruthers said.
Florida Cosplay Digital Magazine was launched to spotlight talented cosplayers throughout the state. “We hope you enjoy reading Florida Cosplay Digital Magazine as much as we delighted in creating and publishing it,” Caruthers said. He promises more issues are coming soon.
