Sk8 the Infinity is a sports anime that was released last year, in 2021. The story follows a high-schooler with a passion for skateboarding and illegal underground skateboarding competitions. This anime is full of comedy, drama, and character growth. Additionally, it only has 12 episodes, so it’s a great starter anime!
Synopsis
In the anime, Sk8 the Infinity, a teenage skateboard enthusiast, Reki Kyan, befriends a new student from Canada named Langa. Reki has studied the art of skateboarding since he was a kid and even works part-time at a skate shop. Meanwhile, Langa has never skateboarded in his life.
One day, Langa and Reki make a late night skateboard delivery to “S,” the dangerous underground skateboarding races. Unfortunately, they’ve brought the wrong skateboard and Reki is forced to compete on the purchaser’s behalf. Before Reki gets a chance to race, Langa steps up.
Although Langa has never skateboarded before, he did learn to snowboard at a young age. In the heat of the moment, Langa tapes his feet to a skateboard and sets off to race against Shadow, a fearsome competitor. Three, two, one. The race begins! If only Langa could figure out how to make the board move without the steep slopes of the snowy mountains. Desperate, Langa decides to crouch down and push himself along with his hands.
The crowd is amazed! The mystery racer, who moments ago, was pushing himself to move, is now in the lead! Langa wins the race! Only now, Reki and Langa must work together to take on the toughest skateboarders in Japan, who all have their own superhero-like secret identities outside of skating.
Sk8 the Infinity is a suspenseful skateboarding anime that will have you on the edge of your seat. Although comedic moments are plentiful, the real treasure in Sk8 the Infinity is the character development. Friendships are tested and old allies become foes in this dramatic story.
Where To Watch
Sk8 the Infinity is available for streaming on Funimation and Crunchyroll.
