Awesomus Prime is an Indigenous/Hispanic/Queer producer and DJ based out of Jacksonville, Florida. Additionally, they are the owner of independent music label, Kawaii Kunai.
Background
Introduced to music at a young age, Awesomus Prime first began learning on the clarinet. However, his musical journey didn’t stop there. In choir, he was the featured soloist at every concert. As they aged, they started teaching themselves other instruments including guitar, bass, drums, and even tin whistle. Tin whistle is a woodwind instrument typically heard in traditional Irish songs and Celtic music. As she moved into the professional world, she took up nerdcore hip hop, joined several pop-punk bands. Then, in 2012, found a home in DJing.
Inspirations
Today, Awesomus Prime’s work combines their passion for music, anime, and gaming into one. Kawaii Kunai, their record label, is the embodiment of that.
“I create music inspired by anime and gaming; the genres sometimes fluctuate. I focus on tech house and big room house mostly, but I also produce lo-fi (I have an album called “Love & Lo-Fi”), Jersey club, techno, drum and bass, dubstep/riddim, and I’ve also made some cyber wave for you cyberpunk fans,” Awesomus Prime explained during our interview.

Although they produce a lot of EDM, or electronic dance music, they also have a strong love for other genres such as pop-punk, punk, ska, folk metal, nu metal, and Irish classics. Recently, he’s been getting into K-pop.
Creating the Music
When asked how Awesomus Prime creates his music, he described, “I tend to let the sounds move me in a direction, any direction really. I listen and feel the colors wash over me and allow them to tell me the story they want to tell. I know it sounds strange, but I want you to feel the music like I do, not just hear it.”
Performance
Awesomus Prime frequently performs at conventions. Above all, three of her favorite places to perform have been Otakon, Zenkaikon, and Blerdcon.
Moreover, she enjoys meeting people who love the same things she does and aims to always create a memorable party they’ll talk about for months. “It’s like Goku creating a Spirit Bomb of positivity, only to shower the energy back onto the crowd,” she illustrated.
Where will Awesomus Prime be Next?
Looking ahead, Awesomus Prime will be performing at Sugoi Expo on September 9-11 in Orlando, Florida and hosting the lip sync battle at Anime St. Pete on September 17-18 in St. Petersburg, Florida.
