Our 8 Favorite Bryson Baugus Characters
In honor of Baugus appearing at Anime St. Pete, Florida Comic Cons presents our 8 favorite Baugus characters (in order).
- Shoyo Hinata from Haikyu!!
- Bell Cranel from Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?
- Seiya from Knights of the Zodiac: Saint Seiya
- Takumi Aldini from Food Wars!
- Minato Narumiya from Tsurune
- Mitsuru from Darling in the Franxx
- Falco Grice from Attack on Titan
- Kimihito Kurusu from Monster Musume: Everyday Life with Monster Girls
Favorite character # 1: Shoyo Hinata from Haikyu!!
In 2017, it was announced that Baugus would be portraying Shoyo Hinata from Haikyu!!. The actor has stated that Hinata’s voice comes very naturally to him, but with a power boost of added excitement! Hinata’s ultimate dream is too be an all-star volleyball player. However, his short height and lack of experience set him up to be quite the underdog. Bryson Baugus can’t relate to him on the height aspect, but he does know what it’s like to desperately want to achieve a dream. Hinata is the type of character that you can’t help but root for. He’s bright-eyed, positive, and always pushes himself to the limit. Although not much of a sports fan himself, taking on this role has taught Baugus a lot about volleyball. Season five of Haikyu!! is in production, but currently delayed.
Favorite character # 2: Bell Cranel from Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?
Is it Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? is an anime about a 14-year-old boy who wants to become an adventurer to impress women, but along the way, his motives become increasingly genuine and pure. Bryson Baugus plays the main character, Bell Cranel. “A lot of his character is very similar to myself,” Baugus revealed during an interview at Anime Boston 2017. Bell is overly-apologetic and kind-hearted just like Baugus. A fourth season of the anime was announced on January 31, 2021.
Favorite character # 3: Seiya from Knights of the Zodiac: Saint Seiya
In Knights of the Zodiac: Saint Seiya, Seiya is raised an orphan. After awakening his inner power, he joins the ranks of the Knights of the Zodiac to protect the goddess, Athena. Seiya also hopes to reunite with his long-lost sister. Voicing Seiya posed a new challenge for Bryson Baugus. He had worked on action shows before, but never to this extent. Seiya is a powerful character with a powerful voice, which means a lot of yelling. While recording for longer periods of time, Baugus had to learn new techniques to maintain stamina. In addition to the new CGI series, Baugus also dubbed the original 1986 series for Netflix.
Favorite character # 4: Takumi Aldini from Food Wars!
Bryson Baugus had been informed that he was going to be playing a voice in Food Wars!, but didn’t know what he was in for initially. Takumi Aldini appears to be a very suave, cool, and conceited character on the surface, but is quickly shown to be a “goofball” who takes himself too seriously, as Baugus describes. Takumi Aldini, twin brother of Isami Aldini, is an Italian chef and self-proclaimed rival of the main character, Soma Yukihira.

Favorite character # 5: Minato Narumiya from Tsurune
The English dub voice cast for Tsurune was announced in late 2018. Bryson Baugus plays the role of the main character, Minato Narumiya. Minato is a serious person with past trauma, but his passion for archery propels him forward. This character is one of our favorites because he shows that anything is possible with the power of perseverance and friendship. The series will receive a new movie this summer in Japan.
Favorite character # 6: Mitsuru from Darling in the Franxx
What makes Mitsuru from Darling in the Franxx so phenomenal is the character development we see him go through. Mitsuru begins as a cold, cynical, and selfish character. However, we’re able to hear Bryson Baugus take this harsh character and slowly soften him over the course of the show. Mitsuru eventually falls in love and with that he sheds the life of the apathetic murderer he once was.
Favorite character # 7: Falco Grice from Attack on Titan
A compassionate young boy burdened with the atrocities of war, Falco Grice gave Bryson Baugus a chance to appear in one of the most successful anime series of all time, Attack on Titan. Falco is an Eldian with strong feelings for his friend, Gabi. Although he is meek, he has incredible courage. Falco’s feelings for Gabi lead him to making some difficult decisions in order to protect her.

Favorite character # 8: Kimihito Kurusu from Monster Musume: Everyday Life with Monster Girls
Bryson Baugus held an iconic leading role as Kimihito Kurusu in Monster Musume. In this story, it’s newly legal for monsters to inhabit the same spaces as humans. Kimihito volunteers to look after monster girls that are new to human-inhabited areas. He is a selfless person who cares a lot about the girls he looks after. Kindness seems to be a reoccurring theme amongst Baugus’s characters.
